Longspee Academy

Our School - Longspee Primary

Longspee Academy is a special school supporting young people from the age of 5-11 with an EHCP (whose main need is Autism with other complex needs such as SEMH)

The Academy mantra says it all –

Happy, Safe, Progress

Longspee Academy provides a personalised education tailored to meet the needs of its pupils aged 5-11 years in Key Stages 1-2. We ensure that our pupils are happy, safe and make progress on their journey to adulthood. All our pupils have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) with a main need of Autism. The vast majority of our pupils have multi layered needs and have outcomes in other areas of the code of practice e.g. communication and interaction, cognition and learning or physical and sensory.

Longspee Academy’s highly trained staff use child centred approaches underpinned by PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy). Personalised learning programmes enable pupils to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. Specialist teaching and pastoral staff support pupils with a wide range of intervention strategies to help improve their behaviour and ensure they are ready to learn. There is a high staff to pupil ratio which enables us to flexibly identify barriers to learning and plan strategies to support progress.

The curriculum has a focus on the development of key literacy and numeracy skills, reading and phonics, improved levels of attention and concentration, social skill development, emotional health and well-being and self-regulation in regards to behaviours which cause concern.
