Longspee Academy

SEND Provision - Longspee Secondary

Our Provision (SEN)

Longspee Academy is primarily a provision for students with an ASD diagnosis who may also have other complex needs such as SEMH. All our students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (‘EHCP’).

We support pupils with a range of needs including:

  • Autism (ASD) – Primary need
  • Attachment
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Dyslexia
  • PDA
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Speech and Language Difficulties.
  • SEMH

To best meet the needs of the pupils, we provide a supportive environment for each individual. We offer opportunities for all-round educational, personal, and social growth.

  • EHCP outcomes are central to planning our provision and curriculum: we work collaboratively with local authority SEN teams to ensure that pupils’ outcomes are met effectively and supported appropriately.

Staff receive regular training from both external and internal trainers, in order to provide an individualised, support package to help students reach their potential.

These include:

  • Autism – Making sense of Autism
  • PACE
  • ACEs and Early Trauma
  • Behaviour Management
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • De-Escalation techniques including Team Teach
  • Attachment Disorder
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs

*(This list is not exhaustive)

In order to support our pupils, we work closely with external agencies such as the Educational Psychologist Service (EPS), Special Educational Needs Support Service (SENSS) and Health professionals, including CAMHS, Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), Paediatrics and We Are With You, Safe Schools Communities Team, to deliver differentiated learning experiences and the management of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs).

Our in-school intervention programme offers pupils the opportunity to work towards personal goals and targets, many of which are associated with their EHCPs. This is customised to the individual, and is monitored and adapted to encourage progress and success in their learning and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our class teams liaise closely with the school SENDCo and intervention team to identify any internal support required that we can offer.

We offer interventions from staff across the school including:
