Longspee Academy

Vision and Ethos - Longspee Secondary

Our vision is to support young people to be independent, successful and confident adults.

Our Mantra, ‘ happy, safe, progress’ is at the heart of achieving our vision.

Our therapeutic approach creates a culture in which each student is given the help they need to overcome those barriers to learning and achieve success.

Longspee Secondary focuses upon supporting and nurturing every individual to learn the core skills, knowledge and understanding so that they may achieve their aspirations, through relevant qualifications. Pupils will also develop the social and personal skills to be successful and maintain relationships which is equally important in adult life.

We are ambitious for all of our pupils to achieve GCSEs in core subjects (Maths, English and Science) alongside vocational subject qualifications that match the students interests and aspirations. Personal and social development lessons and opportunities occupy a large percentage of our timetable to balance developing academic learning and personal character. Much of the personal social development involves interaction in the local area encouraging pupils to connect to and feel part of their community.

Relationships are integral in the success of pupils achieving at the school. The school supports pupils in building relationships with themselves, others and learning

A holistic, therapeutic and relationship-based approach promotes positive regulation, engagement and wellbeing.

Through this approach pupils learn how to participate with others, access the curriculum and engage through an understanding of their individual needs and strengths.

We are consistent yet flexible in our approach, so we can support and adapt to individual pupils’ needs to enable them to be successful.

Our vision is for Longspee students to leave the school ready to be successful, independent and confident adults.
